Just when you may have thought that Dad has been around...there is more!

My Dad and my Step-Mom, in Rome (several years ago), to meet with the Pope, John Paul II. He was a truly humble, holy, and peace loving man. My parents bowed down to respect him and his office in the Church.

I thought this picture would be cool to share...after WWII, Arnold, and all the "Dad" stuff on my blog. This was truly special for them, and the rest of our family. We were not there with them, but the picture is really neat to have.

Hi Dan,

Are your family catholic, or did your parents want to meet the pope simply as Christians?

I happened to see the pope once in Krakow when he was visiting his home city. It was quite a sight: about a couple of million people in the street sides, waiting for the pope to pass, there was a band of nuns singing happy hymns and such. The pope drove past me a couple of feet away in that vehicle of his that has bullet proof glass.

The late Pope was also a rock'n'roll man: when Bono went to meet him, wearing sunglasses as he always does, John Paul grabbed the shades and put them on. Only the other people in the Vatican did not have an equal sense of humour, because they censored all the evidence of that occasion!
