Another batch of stuff, and 1957

The Bridge on the River Kwai, winner of multiple Oscars, seen here with Alec Guinness and Sessue Hayakawa, was filmed in Ceylon. It was released in 1957. Though historically inaccurate, it was an excellent movie.

From The Guardian:
"1957: After hearing Elvis, Daltrey makes a guitar from a block of wood."

...Roger was busy, huh?

1957 pink Cadillac

For the rest of today's post, a B-52 photo from the Edwards AFB Air Show last October. In service for nearly 55 years, they are expected to fly until the year 2040. This particular photo was taken by me, It is commonly known as a "dirty pass", flaps down, wheels out.

The story of Sir Douglas Mawson, as told by Lennard Bickel, is the most amazing survival story I have ever heard of. You can check this stuff out at:

The Moody Blues, 1957, and more on snow. Three in one, today.

Possibly my favorite album, here, of the Moodies: On the Threshold of a Dream.

I also greatly enjoy In Search of the Lost Chord.

My all-time favorite album is likely unknown to me, but sure do enjoy Who's Next (The Who), and Paint The Sky with Stars (Enya), among a ton of other things.

I said I'd add more on snow, so also here is...more on snow, y'know.

Now, from www.babyboomers.com on 1957:

Soviet Union inaugurates the "Space Age" by launching Sputnik I, the world's first artificial satellite. A month later Sputnik II carries a dog into orbit, making that dog the first living being to enter space.

and from www.daviddarling.info/images/Laika.jpg
comes:

Yes, that is Laika, the spacedog, also referred to as "Muttnik"

What?

I saw this picture this morning. It is said to be Cedar Key Airport, Florida. I don't know about anybody else, but I don't like the looks of this one. The plane is a Piper Cherokee, which looks better than the airstrip, and more firmly planted.

I got this from some website named "Ron's Place" on the web. I was looking up stuff on 1957, and ran across some fine cars from the 1950's. Since this will be the year that turn the Big Five-O, I plan on popping a few 1957-era stuff on my blog from time to time. I use 1957, because that is when I came into this world, of course.

As I said, the first 1957 item appears today...courtesy of www.thewho.net

at:

http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/equip-57stratocaster.htm

It is Pete Townshend, with a guitar used on Quadrophenia, a 1957 Fender Stratocaster. I do not believe Pete had yet obtained a guitar until he was about twelve years old, in 1957...inspired by my arrival maybe? Hah!

Home, again!

I know I have not mentioned this here, but my Dad is supposed to come home from the hospital today. This seems to be the third time for a recurring situation. we pray for him every day. Here he is just days before the most recent distruption. From left, is my Stepmother, Dad, our grandson Baby Jesse, and my daughter Serena.

Love you, Dad.
