It's going to be great

We have a new tent. There will be some fine camping this year. For now, it is still too warm in the desert, so we will wait a bit, as that is likely to be our first use of the new home away from home.

I prefer to sleep outside without a tent, but having a family means one must give more from time to time. I love it just as well.

Various notes of note

The wind is blowing a whole lot today. The name they use for these seasonal winds is called " The Santa Ana Winds". The picture I borrowed from Google shows a wind farm. There are quite a bit of those big propeller things not far from here...near Palm Springs.

Also...

Almost every day, the great antennas of NASA's Deep Space Network turn to a blank patch of sky in the constellation Ophiuchus. Pointing at nothing, or so it seems, they invariably pick up a signal, faint but full of intelligence. The source is beyond Neptune, beyond Pluto, on the verge of the stars themselves.

Update on playing records...

No go. The player barely functions properly. I am likely to give up, after spending over seventy dollars for what amounts to only a glorified radio.

Sad about this.

Hoping to play records

Am getting a record player that I picked up on ebay in the next few days. I sure hope I can play some of my old records. We will soon know.

The weather here has cooled considerably, but I am hearing the heat returns by Monday or so.

Everyone is back in school...college & high school. Things are firing up for the push through the fall season.

Well, I must admit...

Today, September 6th, 49 years, and counting!

(though posted on the 5th, I gotta work all day on the 6th, so gimme a break...)

I will add some interesting photos from what is a mix of a big local fire (smoke cloud, yellow color), normal summer thunderclouds, and the remains of the Mexican Hurricane John...all mixed in one.

Today, September 5th (the day BEFORE my big old birthday), it was somewhere around 114 degrees F.

PLEASE do "click" on the photos...they get much nicer to view...

We are remodeling

I must admit, things are busy, here at the house. We are making some upgrades...finally. You should see the number of people that stop by to see what's up!

I know, I know...the landscaping will come later.

What? Keith Richards?

I saw one of the music practice rooms in the mountains at Idyllwild, CA, a few weeks ago, and just had to take these photos. Each little back house seems to have been named for some donating organization or commemorating alumnus or something. I found a particular one to be most interesting...named for a Keith Richardson. I almost got it to say "Richards" with the camera.

There were several of these little practice rooms, and here, on my blog, I offer photos from a few. Who is that guy on the keyboard, anyway?...nooo!
