Where is my keeper?

Marion, our daughter, is still away at a music Art Institute. We ALL miss her.

This is her pet gecko lizard, who misses Marion very much (photo taken on only her first day gone!).

Deliver the child...to Idyllwild!

This whole post is about a trip to Idyllwild, California, a mountain community between 5,000 and 6000 ft. high, and about 75 road miles from home.

California has a great National Forest Service bunch of firefighters. Here is a bunch of them, on their way, near the active fire zone.

Marion, she is now 16...plays the trumpet. A scholarship was granted to her...to a fantastic Art Institute, two weeks in the mountains at over 5,000 ft., all girl dorms, ALL work schedule...

More pic description: Cruz, my wife, helps her "sign in" to the Institute.

This whole post includes random pictures, and random writings, since I have NO IDEA how blogger really relates to this post process. The pictures might be anywhere, but still relate.

There is a rather neat place that a music event takes place...the venue is very cool...it is one of the pictures, here...with the bellowing coverings, bridges, and chairs.

Temple Crag

In the amazing Sierra Nevada mountains, is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. It is known as Temple Crag, to many. The water is really that color, due to the powdered material from glacial run-off. This lake can be found while on the trail that eventually leads to the Palisade Glacier.

...And you thought California was just desert and beaches with smog and earthquakes!

This photo was another one NOT taken by me, but I was at the location (many years ago, now), and I did go to the glacier. If I had a scanner, I would gladly show my own photos.

Fires...again

I know we were totally messed up a couple of years ago with the biggest fires I have ever seen in all of my almost 50 years on earth...but...

They just keep coming.

The fires burning now are no threat to us, here (as were the ones previously mentioned), but the smoke is seen (and often smelled) every day.

It will be well over 100 degrees F. for at least the next week...or month, as I can tell. So GLAD we got an A/C unit in our living room wall. A cool living room!

I love that desert area, where this stuff is happening. I pray for those that suffer so much.

We are so far very blessed to not yet have a threatening fire, here...but it isn't over yet. Fire season goes on well into October.

All pictures are not from me. They were from "Googling", and I have no references...I did not see any, from where they came.

Life in S. Calif. is very, very interesting. There can be beaches, there can be snow. There can be earthquakes, there can be fires. There can be floods, there can be 100 mph winds. There can be beautiful pine trees, there can be 200 mile visibility from almost 12,000ft. high. There is Hollywood, there is the Wild West. There are the Lakers, Dodgers, Angels, Padres, Kings, Ducks, Quakes, 66ers, etc. etc. There are Space Shuttle landings, there are Rocket launches to space...there is so much more...

I love it here.

How Hot Was It?

How about 110 degrees. This evening, in MY garage (not Allen's, my neighbor).

Whew. This is in the evening, folks.

Tomorrow, Saturday, is supposed to be hotter.

Moon rising, across the street from my house

The title says it. My phone camera, though needy, was the better choice at night, here. The moon looks SO much larger when it rises.

We have things we didn't know we had

Here, about a mile or so from the house, is something very far away from where it came from. Mt. Rainier is in the state of Washington, north of Oregon, and considerably more north of us, in the hot summer sun of inland Southern California.

There is a story somewhere.

I don't know anything about the gorilla either. I just knew I had to snap a couple of pictures, as this looked like blog material to me.

A trip to the beach

Journeyed to the coast today, the day before the 4th of July. It was quite hot, inland, and yet again hot at the sea today. We saw fishing happen, with a sting ray paying the price. We saw many, many people and cars.
Rachel (in red), and Marion came with me. They are my two youngest daughters.

We met Gary Stockton, and his lovely wife Stephani, at a nice little BBQ restaurant. We thouroughly enjoyed the company. It was a real pleasure meeting up with fellow blogger Gary and his very sweet wife.

Thank you, Gary and Stephani.

Have a great 4th of July, everybody!
