Hoping to play records

Am getting a record player that I picked up on ebay in the next few days. I sure hope I can play some of my old records. We will soon know.

The weather here has cooled considerably, but I am hearing the heat returns by Monday or so.

Everyone is back in school...college & high school. Things are firing up for the push through the fall season.

Your post reminds me of an album by a fantastic Canadian artist Gordon Lightfoot - who released 'Old Dan's Records' in 1972. (Incidentally he also released an album called 'Endless Wire' in 1978). I still have an enormous record collection too Dan which I still rate over CD's and mp3's - even though the latter are cleaner, crisper, easier to manage. I remember when CD's were first taking off I bought two extra turntables to keep in storage. I wonder if they even work? Never tried...although I listen to the easier and cleaner formats now still I will never part with my records.

Hi Dan,
I'm sorry to hear about Joseph too, I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

On the lighter side, I like vinyl records too. I find that if they are taken care of well, they sound better than CD's. I also like how the album cover is so much bigger. Did you know that vinyl albums are still being made? Hot Topic has some of the latest albums as well as some classic ones on vinyl. Still, I do like to hunt for the best rock albums in Ventura and sometimes thrift stores if I'm lucky.

Ahh yes - record collecting was so much fun. I remember looking forward to Saturday mornings so I could get up early and troll through the (at the time) numerous used record shops. Finding original pressings on original labels was the goal. You never knew what you would find. It was great. All of the pictures, letters, correspondence in Live At Leeds, the booklet from Quadrophenia, gatefolds that opened up with picture books in them like in Red Rose Speedway, all incerdibly amazing stuff that the cd/mp3 generation have completely lost out on.

I thank each and every one that sent their thoughts and prayers regarding the loss of our nephew. It has been difficult in more than a few ways. He was both loved, and a source of frustration.

I guess at times, many of us are, as I can be as well.

Ah, Dan, again, I don't know the circumstances, but troubled people can be a source of frustration - the lucky ones are loved despite it.

As for the vinyl, I'm with Jonathan here. I used to LOVE those gatefold sleeves. I still have my Double White album with all its inclusions, and Live at Leeds ditto of course. The Quadrophenia booklet just isn't the same in postage-stamp size. What's next - microfilm?

Hope your new player works. I don't use mine a lot, but I would NEVER get rid of it - or my records. I just hope I'll always be able to by styluses - styli?
